Broadway Second Main Track Project

LJA Rail provided design and construction management and inspection of Port Terminal Railway Association’s second main track from Manchester Junction to GH&H Junction in Houston, Texas. This included a new double track railroad bridge crossing the existing underpass at Broadway Street. Multiple segments of the existing track were reconfigured to accommodate the second main within the existing right-of-way and tying in to existing track at the project limits. New grade crossings were also required at Magnolia/Glendale Cemetery, Frio Street, Medina Street, and Fennell Street.

LJA Rail was able to plan for and accommodate construction of the improvements in this very tight Houston location without additional land acquisition or significant impact to train operations. The project was partially funded with CMAQ funds, which required compliance with FRA funding guidelines and was administered by TxDOT.
